1. What is a Reverberi Controller and how does it work?

The Reverberi SEC STP power controller is an electronically controlled electro-mechanical device installed in public lighting installations. It has the following main functions:
- Act as "intelligent" lighting distribution panel
- Stabilise the line voltage supplied to the luminaires to +/- 1% of the set value independent of the supply voltage
- Control the light output of the lamps in order to adjust the lighting level to the requirement e.g. traffic density and by doing so saving a considerable about of energy
- Protect the lamps before over voltage the prime cause of premature lamp and ballast failures and by doing so considerably lower maintenance cost
- Measure, record and communicate to a central station all electrical parameter and other user defined information
- Communicate failures and other problems to a central station.
25 to 50% of energy can be saved and the maintenance intervals of the lamps can be up to doubled! The equipment is designed to operate in harsh climatic conditions as well as in a "rough" electrical environment. It is suitable for new installations as well as for easy retrofit to existing installations.
 2. How a Reverberi Controller work?

By means of sophisticated and patented electronic means the output voltage of each phase is individually stabilised to +/- 1% independent of the input voltage. This is done without any moving parts such as brushes and other mechanical power contacts as used in most transformer based systems. In this way there are drastic cuts in maintenance costs and expenses on system operating costs even under very harsh climatic conditions. The equipment's modular design makes the system very flexible and adaptable to customer's needs. Original configuration can be expanded using electronic modules for remote control, for control of single lighting points and to verify and control other systems such as: traffic lights, pollution monitoring systems, etc.

3. What are the Main Benefits of the Reverberi System?

Energy saving due to:
- Reduced working voltage according to pre-set cycles
- Stabilisation of line voltage to luminaires
Savings on operating costs because of longer lamp life due to:
- Stabilisation of luminaire input voltage
- Soft starting
- Elimination of spikes and mains interference
A complete and flexible management system:
- Total control from a central station
- Faults and other problems are reported as they occur
- Elimination of physical checks of the functioning of the lighting

4. What is the Return of Investment

Depending on the parameters of an installation the
ROI for public lighting installations is ranging from 2-4 years.

5. What Models are Available in the Reverberi Controller Range?

- STP xxx model: power controller only (to be installed on the input side of an existing control panel)
- STP QIR xxx model: power controller complete with integrated control panel for on/off as well as for stabilisation
- STP QIR xxx/M model: power controller with integrated control panel and compartment for metering device The controller is supplied complete with an IP44 fibreglass reinforced cabinet ready for connection.

6. What are the Parameters needed to Choose a Reverberi Controller?

To select the correct controller we need to know the following:
- Mains voltage (phase to neutral or phase to phase)
- Mains voltage system e.g. (3-phase plus neutral, 3-phase without neutral)
- Power and power factor of the load (or alternatively: the number of lamps on each phase, their power and power factor)

7. What about Retrofitting a Reverberi Controller?

A controller can be installed in an existing installation without any problems. No modifications are needed to either cabling or lighting fixtures, plant configurations or existing control panels. If an STP xxx controller is chosen it should be installed at output of the existing control panel. IF an STP QIR xxx controller is chosen it takes the place of existing control panel.

8. Can a Reverberi Controller Operate Different Lamp Types?

Yes, mixing is no problem. Different wattages can be connected to the same line. In case mercury vapour lamps are on the same line the output voltage minimum has to be set accordingly. For details please consult our technical literature.

9. What Kind of Lamps are Compatible with a Reverberi Controller?

The controller is compatible with most types of lamps available on the market. Lamps that bring about greatest benefits in terms of energy savings are those with lower minimum working voltage (e.g.: high-pressure sodium).

10. Can the Reverberi Controller Output Voltage be higher than the Input Voltage?

Yes the controller can increase the mains voltage by up to 15V.
 11. What are the most important Parameters to be set on the Reverberi Controller?

- Starting voltage value
- Full light voltage value
- Reduced voltage value
- Alarm thresholds (current and voltage)
- Ramp speeds
- Measurement sampling rate
- Switch on level of lighting
- Time of reduced voltage

12. What can be Remotely Controlled with a Reverberi Controller?

- Parameters of the Controller: All parameters and settings of the controller can be red and changed remotely.
- Measurements: All electrical measurements are recorded in pre-settable intervals. This information can be downloaded. Online measurements can be red.
- Control of each individual lighting point: With optional equipment each lighting point can be controlled individually and all the parameters of an individual lighting point can be accessed.

13. How is a Reverberi Controller Installed?

It is very simple to install a Reverberi controller. The construction part is limited to casting a base for the cabinet in which a galvanised iron base with four bolts is mounted. The controller is inserted onto this base and fastened with four nuts. If there is already a plinth but no anchoring framework the controller can be easily fixed to the four anchor screws. No special equipment for the mounting nor for the installation. There are very few terminals and the terminal board is easy to get to.
 14. Are metal halide lamps dimmable?

Yes, they are! The dimming range with Intelux controllers is about 100-50% of luminous flux. The color temperature is changing towards the coolder side of the spectrum where the color rendering index is decreasing. If dimmed properly lamp life is at least the same. Some lamp manufacturer e.g. GE, BLV and Venture guarantee their products when they are controlled with INTELUX.
 15. Does the color change when HID lamps are dimmed?

According to the test made on Intelux controllers it depends on the type of lamp. In mercury vapour lamps the color does not change, in HPS lamps the same. The color does change when MH lamps are dimmed! The change does depend very much on the lamp type. Sodium - Scandium lamps tend to be much more stable then others.
 16. Does the color rendering index change when HID lamps are dimmed?

In case of MH lamps with Intelux controllers it does decrease with decreasing output of the lamp. In many applications this is not really a problem because daylight is compensated.
 17. How does the lamplife change on dimmed HID lamps?

According to the test made with Intelux controllers if dimming is properly applied the lamp life is at least the same as the one on non dimmed lamps. Because of the stabilisation of the voltage it can be that the actual lamp life with dimmed lamps is much greater then without dimming. On HPS lamps we find that the life can be as much as doubled with a control system.
Other filament lamps show 2-4 times the lamp life.
 18. Can fluorescent lamps be dimmed?

Yes, they can! By Intelux controllers the dimming range is about 100-50%. Interesting is that at 50% output the efficiency of the lamp can be improved by as much as 20%!
 19. Can HPS lamps really be dimmed to 2% ol lumen output?

Yes they can with Intelux controllers! The conditions however must be good to do that, e.g. with old lamps and bad supply it would not be possible.
 20. How much does a dimming system cost?

In most projects we achieve a ROI
2-4 years! The cost then with Intelux controllers is about €0.25 to €0.50 per Watt that is €250.00 to €500.00 per kW of installed power!
