Light Pollution
A considerable portion (about 30%) of electrical energy consumed by outdoor lighting installations is lost because the light flux is directed up towards the sky, adding to the phenomenon of atmospheric light pollution, which stresses the eyes and disturbs flora and fauna. Using a SEC ST power controller limits luminous flux to scheduled times and helps to cut light pollution.
The harmful effects can be seen on the entire eco-system. The flora and the fauna are influenced by the changes on the natural day-night cycle (the extension of plant photosynthesis induced by artificial night light creates an upset in growth phases, flowering and resting periods).
Light pollution is a serious problem for many animals, especially birds.
According to recent research light energy dispersal into the sky amounts to more than than 170 million Euro every year in Italy alone.
Solutions offered by Reverberi Enetec foresee the reduction of light levels at predetermined times. Energy and maintenance savings are achieved and the "light pollution" kept to a minimum.
UNESCO has stated that the night sky is "human heritage" and
Reverberi Enetec is working to defend this.
